Popstar brings hyperpop to the dancefloor and does an excellent job at it. “Crashing Out” uses a great dance beat underneath the track and Tinashe has always been grounded in dance. Similarly, even as “Melatonin” fails to make fetch happen, it works well in this template.
The album largely sticks to hyperpop and even as “Brainrot” moves to more traditional hyperpop, it does it well. When the album strays, such as in the ballad “Heavy Weight”, it does drag the album down, but overall the energy is good, the music is good and the album is fun.
